Changing the World for Good
Tracy and Tammy Backus have attended Hillspring and been involved in it’s ministries for decades. They are long-time leaders in the Living Nativity productions and they also lead a small group. The Backus small group is a diverse group of people ranging from young and old, couples and single people, Spanish speakers and English speakers. The group was doing the church wide study that we did a few years ago called “Get Off Your Donkey” which was based off of a book by our consultant, Reggie McNeal and decided they had an opportunity. The study was about getting out and helping build the Kingdom of God and the Hillspring small group did just that.
Tracy was helping at an event for a separate ministry when he heard about SnipesH3, a non-profit led by Tobaski Snipes that helps mentor young adults and provides housing and life skills. Tracy brought the idea of partnering with SnipesH3 to his group and soon after, the group was hosting events for the young people of the organization monthly. The group has gone bowling, axe throwing, miniature golfing, and done all kinds of things together. Every year, the small group holds a Christmas party for the kids where they bake together and make ornaments.
The Backus small group continues to be an example of the values of Hillspring and examplifies the value of changing the world for good through the work of the Holy Spirit. We love hearing about members of our Hillspring family reaching out to our community and showing God’s love to the world.
