The Heart of Christmas: Memories Over Presents

Christmas is such a beautiful season filled with love, joy, and the spirit of giving. But let’s be honest—those last days before Christmas can feel like a whirlwind. Many of us wonder, Have I given my kids enough gifts? I’ve been there, staying up late wrapping presents, worrying if it’s enough.

I’ve realized that the toys we stress over today will likely be forgotten tomorrow. I’ve seen this in my own home. After a few weeks of playing in the living room, the toys eventually make their way to the playroom, where they stay. If I asked my kids which toy they loved receiving last year, I doubt they could remember.

But what they do remember are the moments. The laughter from family games. The joy of scavenger hunts. Making 100 tamales with grandma. Staying up late, giggling with cousins. Dressing up as shepherds in the Nativity. These experiences have become our most cherished traditions, and they didn’t cost much at all.

As parents, we want to give our kids the world, but let me encourage you not to go into debt trying to make Christmas magical. I’ve been there too, and I’ve learned that the best gifts don’t come wrapped with bows. Instead, they’re made of time, love, and togetherness.

So, this Christmas, let’s focus on creating memories that will last a lifetime. Watch Christmas movies together. Build a gingerbread house. Look at Christmas lights. Watch or participate in the Living Nativity. Tell your children the story of Jesus’ birth. Because, after all, it’s His birthday, and He is the greatest gift of all!

As we reflect on this special season, let’s hold close these words from Scripture:

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” – Isaiah 9:6

Wishing you a Christmas full of love, joy, and unforgettable memories,
