Stitched In The Spirit: A Ministry of Love and Warmth

Have you ever received a handmade item that just made you feel special and loved? Maybe it was a cozy scarf, a soft blanket, or a pair of mittens that seemed to wrap you in kindness. These small but powerful gifts remind us that someone cares deeply enough to pour their time and talent into creating something just for us.

At Hillspring, our ministry group, Stitched In The Spirit, specializes in this kind of love. The group is made up of dedicated volunteer knitters and crocheters who use their skills to bless others. Every second and fourth Monday and first and third Thursday at 10:30 a.m., these talented individuals, led by Tammie Nichols, gather at the church. Their fingers weave together yarn and prayers, creating items that bring comfort, hope, and joy to those in need.

The group makes a variety of beautiful and practical items, including prayer shawls, chemo caps, mittens, hats, lap blankets, and more. But their creations are more than just physical items—they are tangible expressions of care and compassion. Each piece is crafted with thoughtfulness and prayer, intended to provide warmth and encouragement to the recipient.

Stitched In The Spirit donates its handcrafted items to a wide range of people and organizations. Recipients include Hillspring Stephen’s Ministry care receivers, Tri-Cities Cancer Center, Eastgate Elementary School, Union Gospel Mission, Kadlec Hospital, and many others in the community. Whether it’s a prayer shawl for someone walking through a difficult season or a pair of mittens for a child facing a cold winter, their gifts make a difference.

One recipient shared, “When I received my prayer shawl, I felt an overwhelming sense of peace. It was as if I could feel the prayers woven into the fabric.” Stories like this are why the members of Stitched In The Spirit do what they do—they know their work has a ripple effect of love.

The group is always looking for more volunteers to join this ministry. Whether you’re an experienced knitter or crocheter or someone who’s always wanted to learn, Stitched In The Spirit would love to welcome you. It’s a chance to share your skills, connect with others, and be part of something meaningful.

Don’t worry if you’re new to knitting or crocheting; the group is happy to teach and provide support. Plus, you’ll enjoy the warmth of fellowship as you work together to make a difference in the lives of others.

So, why not stop by? Bring your needles, hooks, and yarn—or bring yourself and a willingness to learn. You might discover a new passion while spreading love and comfort to those who need it most. Sometimes, the simplest acts of kindness—like a handmade blanket or hat—can make all the difference in the world.

To learn more about Stitched In The Spirit or to get involved, visit them at Hillspring Church every second and fourth Monday and first and third Thursday of the month at 10:30 a.m. You’ll find a warm welcome and the opportunity to use your hands to share your heart.
