Lent is upon us

One of my favorite Christian moments during the year happens to be Ash Wednesday. Historically, Ash Wednesday has been the day Christians all over the world came face to face with their mortality. The day we peer into our brokenness and where we would truly be without Jesus. Ash Wednesday also marks the season of Lent, a time of self-examination and preparation for the resurrection of Jesus which we celebrate on Easter.

I mention this for a bunch of reasons.

First, Ash Wednesday is coming soon (March 2nd)!

Second, as I mentioned earlier, it marks the beginning of the Season of Lent! AND this year, for the Season of Lent, we are going to “resurrect” something we use to do in the BC (before Covid) days of Hillspring! We are going to gather on Wednesday nights during Lent for a Bible study! Pastor Bryan will be leading us in a study of the Lord’s Prayer found within Jesus’ famous “Sermon on the Mount.” More specifically, it is found within Matthew 6:5-15. The study will be both online and in person as well!

Third, in addition to the Bible Study, another Hillspring favorite is coming back! Dinner together!!! Every Wednesday since it has been safe to do so, the Youth have had dinner at the beginning of youth group. It has been a great time to connect with our teens, fill our stomachs and hang. That said, it’s such a great time we thought it would be a great opportunity to invite those who are coming to the Bible Study during Lent to join the youth for dinner! We did this quite a bit back in the BC days and it was a great time!

Here are the details:

Beginning Wednesday, March 9th and continuing every Wednesday through Lent, our youth and anyone coming for the Bible Study are invited to dinner together in the Teen Center at 6PM. Then, at 6:30 the youth will stay in the Teen Center for Youth Group while those participating in the Bible Study will make their way over to the Hillspring Office Building (Building C) to Room C1 (also known as “the Inn”) for the Bible Study!

Needless to say (but I will anyway), I am really looking forward to this!

It’s shaping up to be an exciting season and I hope you will all be able to be a part of it!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Justin
