How good is He
Last fall, a good friend sent me a song she said was speaking to her. Knowing I'm a worship leader, she thought I might like it and want to incorporate the song into Sunday worship. I get messages like this regularly, and the songs I get are always great. But with the number of songs I listen to throughout the year, it takes a lot to catch my attention. The first words of verse one made me pause as I absorbed the truth within the simple lyrics, "How good is He,” which is also the song's title.
Any song that sings about the goodness of God will be one of my favorites, so I knew right away this one was golden. Immediately, I was hooked and drawn in as I listened intently to these words being sung repeatedly, “How good is He.” We cannot sing or praise Him enough for His goodness. That’s the central message Vertical Worship repeatedly reiterates in the lyrics.
How good is He
Far beyond what eyes could ever see
Yet He stands in front of me
How good is He
He paints a canvas with a million stars
Yet still He holds my heart
It can be overwhelming to consider that the same hands that created the universe hold my heart so gently. With the many other things in this world that seem much more significant and pressing than my "stuff," God is here for me because He loves me unconditionally.
The song reminds us that our God is the God of second chances and that while we were still sinners, He welcomed us with open arms and saved us. Beyond our flaws, cracks, mistakes, and imperfections, He loves us and has given everything to be with us.
Too often, we let the world and our ambition desensitize us about this essential truth. We begin to think our choices make good things happen or that the world has been good to us. When bad things happen to us or around us, we might question God's goodness because we get lost in the chaos. However, He is good whether on the mountaintop or in the valley. He will never be anything but good. God is good all the time. All the time, God is good.
His goodness is all I need. This song centers us on this simple yet powerful truth. My prayer for this song is that we’re reminded of the magnitude of who God is and that as mighty as He is, His love for us is immeasurably more.
Lord, we thank you in everything, with everything, and for everything. I pray we center ourselves in Your goodness daily with praise and thanksgiving through a life dedicated to you in all aspects of our lives and relationships. May we reflect Your goodness to the world around us.
Our Father in heaven, the Light of Salvation
Oh, how good is He
The breath of Almighty before and behind me
Oh, how good is He
Go be a blessing,
