Being the hands and feet of Jesus in our community through Tri City Community Connections
After School Matters
After School Matters is committed to inspiring hope in the students and families it partners with. Through the activities we plan, social-emotional development grows. Our desire is for each student to believe that they can be a success, NO exceptions.
We show and display the love of Jesus!
We are passionate about serving and loving our brothers and sisters in Christ regardless of age, race, gender or ethnicity. We intentionally provide a safe and encouraging atmosphere for the communities and families we serve, just as Jesus did.
Students
Currently, we provide a three day per week program for students who need a safe and positive place during peak hours. We build a relationship with the students and encourage them with their personal development.
School
We are fortunate to host school wide events that allow the students, families, teachers and volunteers to connect and develop deeper relationships. We do this through annual events such as Treat ‘n Trunk, Christmas Store, Field Day, and Summer Camp. We stay connected to assist where we can with the day-to-day needs as they arise.
Families & Community
We walk alongside families and offer opportunities for parents/guardians along with their students to further their education and life skills that will benefit themselves and their communities.

-
After School Matters (ASM) is held on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday following the routine school day. The location is Eastgate Elementary in Kennewick WA. Mentors are expected to arrive by 3:00 and stay until 5:05 or when their responsibilities are complete for the day. All mentors are encouraged to serve at least one day per week, but most serve two. We begin the last full week of September and continue until Memorial Day. There are special events and occasions we participate in as well throughout the year.
-
After School Matters wants to provide ministry volunteers with the information and tools for each to reach success for their personal and spiritual goals. We believe that through the introduction orientation, volunteers will leave confident and excited to get out into the community to make the greatest impact. Continued training will happen in November, January and March to help us all to stay fresh, confident and up to date in the best way to serve.
-
First day volunteering? Not sure what to expect? Feeling alone? At After School Matters we are there to answer all your questions, help you through situations, and help you get connected. We do this together as a family.
-
We believe in the power of communication and teamwork. Before every program day we will meet to go through the plan for the day and answer any questions you may have. Also, any updates on students will be shared at that time as well as hearing from you and how you are doing. We will also gather for a five-minute debriefing at the end of each day.
-
We care about your goals too! We want to assist you in setting personal and spiritual goals for yourself while serving in the After School Matters program. You will get the opportunity to share as much or as little of your goals with the director one-on-one, once a quarter to pray with you and build on new goals for serving or in your personal life.
-
Be prepared to create wonderful relationships with these students and their families. Be prepared to be trusted and be a listener for what they are experiencing. Be prepared to be drawn into their world and love them. Be prepared to be stretched, to grow and to be blessed. Be prepared to be loved right where you are; you don’t need all the answers.
