Baptisms and BBQ

Every year, Hillspring celebrates Independence Day together with baptisms, food, and fun! This celebration fell on July 6th this year. The worship portion of this special Sunday includes a celebration of the youth who went to Honduras the week prior. We get to hear about the village that we work with and how our friends in that village are doing. We also get to hear from the youth who went on the trip about how it affected them and their lives moving forward.

After that, we begin with the baptisms. A group of people who signed up weeks before and prepared with a pastor for their public commitment to Christ head to the stage as we covenant to walk with them on their journey with God. This year, we had 8 people who decided to make this commitment. One by one, those being baptized take their turns. The congregation claps for each of them and once everyone has finished, it’s time to head to the gym to eat!

The festivities continue with a catered BBQ lunch, a waterslide, swimming in the fountain, a bounce house, temporary tattoos, and rock painting.

We have such an amazing time with this tradition and are so honored to put it together every year!
