The journey begins with YES!

As I sat in the church pew listening to stories from those who shared their experiences in Honduras, one truth stirred deeply in me: many step into unfamiliar places with nothing but faith and a calling. They may never see the full fruit of their labor or know whose lives they’ve touched, but I’m here to tell you, those ripples matter. They mattered in my life. I’m one of those lives.

I was born in a remote village in Guerrero, Mexico, where life was simple and resources were scarce. We grew our food, and school was a four-hour journey on horseback.

Despite the hardships, I had a joyful childhood. Our greatest struggle was the lack of medical and dental care; when my mother was just 24, she nearly died from an infection after giving birth to her third child. By God’s grace, she survived and went on to have ten more. I’m number five. I consider myself a miracle.

Looking back, I’m deeply thankful for the missionaries who braved the journey to our village and shared Jesus with us through Bible stories and worship songs. They likely never knew the impact of their visit, but their obedience introduced us to the hope of the gospel.

Eventually, my father brought us to the United States—straight to Washington state—in search of a better future. It was in a small church in Pasco that our lives were transformed as we grew in faith. To this day, several members of my family remain active in ministry, including my mom, whose faith in action continues to inspire me.

Like Abraham, each of our stories begins with a step of faith.

What’s your story?

Has God ever asked you to step out without knowing exactly where He was leading?

 Genesis 12:13 reminds us:

“The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others… All the families on earth will be blessed through you.”

Abraham’s obedience wasn’t just about him—it was part of God’s plan to bless the world.

That same pattern continues today. God still calls ordinary people to step out in faith, not just to receive a blessing, but to become a blessing.

Abraham’s story reminds me to walk in obedience, comforting, listening, and pointing others to Jesus. One of my greatest joys is helping people connect not only to resources but also to the Source, Jesus Christ, so that they can step into the calling God has placed on their lives.

As I reflect on my journey—from a small, overlooked village in Mexico to witnessing miracles in hospital rooms and church pews—I’m humbled. It all began with someone willing to go—a missionary who showed up, unaware of the eternal impact they would have on a little girl and her family. They planted seeds of faith that have grown across generations and national borders.

That’s the power of obedience. That’s the power of love that gives, even when the outcome is unseen.

So to every missionary, donor, prayer warrior, and obedient soul who ever supported a missions ministry or said “yes” to God: thank you. You may never know this side of heaven, how far your impact reaches—but trust me, it’s farther than you think.

My prayer is that you know your obedience, your giving, and your “yes” to God will be honored, not just by us, but by our Heavenly Father.

Be a blessing,
Grimelda Sanchez
