The beauty I experienced

I recently had the incredible opportunity to visit Honduras for the first time, and the experience was deeply impactful. Seeing the country firsthand gave me a better understanding of both the beauty of the people and the depth of the poverty they face.

One of the most moving parts of the trip was visiting the villages where Hillspring has been involved for many years. It was powerful to see the success and growth that has come from the faithful support and love our church has poured into these communities. The villagers welcomed us with open arms—even those who had never met us before. I believe that’s because of the strong relationship Hillspring has built with them over time. The excitement on their faces when we arrived reminded me of the deep connection that’s been nurtured through Christ’s love.

What stood out to me most was the pride they took in their homes and village. Though they may have little, their hearts were full. Their simple way of life allowed me to slow down and truly feel the presence of God. In those moments, I was reminded of Matthew 6:10—God’s kingdom being lived out on earth, through humility, joy, and love.

My daughter Mia has traveled to Honduras twice, and now I understand why those trips impacted her so deeply. They stirred in her a desire to serve, and now I feel that same stirring. I saw the face of God in every smile, in every shared meal, and in the unshakable hope of the people.

Mia, Josie’s daughter, made such an impression on the kids from Ojo de Agua that they had shirts made with her picture on them!

We visited small pharmacies in the villages—lifelines where access to healthcare is limited. Knowing that help was available brought tears to my eyes. We also visited a school blessed by a food program. Mothers lovingly prepared lunch for the children—scrambled eggs, cucumbers, tomatoes, and taro. I watched the kids eat joyfully and without complaint. Their happiness filled me with joy and broke my heart all at once.

Left to right: Visiting the village pharmacy for a weight check; medicine cabinet; lunchtime at the village school.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to have gone to Honduras. I returned emotional, inspired, and hopeful—ready to do more, and eager to invite others into this life-changing experience. Together, may we continue to bring God’s kingdom to earth, just as it is in heaven.
